Food is one of migraine causes, dietary habits did it as well, so fasting, dehydration and skipping meals causes migraine headache also. People who track their diary may identify some kinds of foods which cause migraine headaches, all these kinds of food will be mentioned here. Beverages and additives in addition to foods acts as a migraine trigger.

1- Tyramine-containing foods:
Tyramine is an amine which is found naturally in some foods and as the protein containing foods get aged as its tyramine content increases and so the more possibility for migraine to be triggered. These type of foods interacts with mono-amine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), so when MAOIs is taken as a migraine medications, tyramine-containing foods should be avoided as it cause severe hypertension.

  • Cheeses: Most aged cheeses contain tyramine while cream cheese and cottage cheese contains no notable amount of tyramine. Some kinds of cheeses are cheddar, mozzarella, muenster, parmesan and stilton.
  • Processed foods: Foods which contain additives and preservatives contains high amounts of tyramine. where nitrates causes migraine as it dilate blood vessels. Some of foods which contain additives are hot dogs, sausage, pepperoni, luncheon meats.
  • Soy: It contains large amounts of tyramine same as its products soy sauce, tofu and teriyaki sauce.
  • Fruits: Some fruits contains tyramine as avocados and banana, and some others may contain few amount of tyramine especially the overripe and dried fruit as grapes, oranges, plums and pineapples.

2- Cold foods: It may cause migraine headache when you are doing an exercise or in hot temperature then eat cold food and alot of migraine sufferers believe that ice cream and cold substances are one of their migraine causes.

3- Alcohol: It increase cerebral blood flow. Substances produced from metabolization of alcohol on your body causes migraine.

There are some kinds of foods which may cause migraine and didnot mentioned before as pizza, smoked and dried fish, nuts, potato chip products, bread, onions, olives, pickles, baked yeast goods, soy sauce, soy bean, canned soups, caffeine, artificial sweeteners as aspartame and some fruits as figs, raisins, dates, kiwi and pineapple.
